Meet Amanda: Doula and OT: Meet the Team

Amanda Kurtenbach, OTR/L

Occupational Therapist, Doula, Breastfeeding Counselor,
Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Specialist,
Mother

I am a Licensed Occupational Therapist offering in-home postpartum doula and occupational therapy support.  I have a passion to empower and encourage mothers in their motherhood journey! I want to learn and invest in you so you can be successful on your journey. My unique approach is evidenced based care provided by a compassionate, medical professional that assesses the whole individual in order to promote healthy and happy mothers, babies, and families.

I have a Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy and a Bachelors in Rehabilitative Studies. During my schooling, I completed a clinical rotation at Bergan Mercy NICU working with premature and medically fragile infants and their families.  In this setting, I developed a passion for supporting mothers, infants, and families in difficult times.  I am a certified breastfeeding counselor and a certified postpartum doula with a mission to guide, empower, and support other mothers: physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Outside of my educational background, I have worked as an occupational therapist for over 8 years working in various settings including, outpatient lymphedema therapy treating individuals with breast cancer in order to reduce swelling in the breast, chest, and/or upper extremity, as well as inpatient, acute, and home health settings assisting adults overcome or adapt to permanent or temporary disability. Before becoming an occupational therapist, I was a certified nursing assistant for 7 years, starting at age 16. Caring for people has always been my passion!

I first became a mother in 2018 to my daughter, Lena, and then in 2021 I became a mother to my son, Theo. During both of my postpartum journeys, there were many moments where I had feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, and loneliness even with the support of my spouse.  After speaking with other mothers, I found that I was not the only one that had these feelings and experiences! I questioned, "Why don’t mothers seek help during this major life event? What are the barriers? What are their needs?"

After asking myself these questions, researching, and interviewing other mothers,  I was inspired to provide an in-home support service to mothers in this season of life.  A season of life where support is needed because time and energy are limited!  By having in-home doula and OT support,  mothers are empowered and supported on their motherhood journey and are able to care for themselves and thus care for their family!

I look forward to meeting you and supporting you during your motherhood journey!

With love,

Amanda
